Damas Funeral & Family Fund

One of my former students Damas Ilceus was shot and killed on Feb 20 while trying to break up a fight in our community. I received permission from his older brother to start this fund to cover funeral expenses and help his family during this difficult time. I will personally deliver the check of funds raised to his brother and mom. I had Damas as a student for three years and have been very close with him and his beloved brother Davidson. My heart aches for his family and for the senseless loss of a young life. If I close my eyes I can hear his voice - he was an outgoing, constantly happy, ray of sunshine in every day that I got to see him. He was kind and sweet, and incredibly loyal to his friends. He loved being in the band with. I remember telling him at graduation that I was finally getting rid of him ;) , to which he replied "You will NEVER get rid of me!". He was not a thug, a gang banger, or a kid that got into fights. He was a kind soul, a joy to be around, and had a bright future ahead of him. Another life lost to gun violence.
