27 year old Damian is in need of a kidney transplant. I met Damian at Cub foods West in Mankato MN, and would like to help him out! I thought maybe a few other people would too!
Damian graduated from St James High School and has been living in Mankato since he graduated in 2014. He has worked at Cub Foods West for 3 years.
Damian was diagnosed with cystinosis as a child. It causes crystals to build up in your organs and damages them. He needed to have both of his kidneys removed and had a singular kidney transplant at age 9. His eyes have also been affected.
Recently he was on leave from work at Cub and I noticed his absence. His body is rejecting the kidney he has. He became ill and took a leave from work starting in October 2023. I saw him at work again on 2/9/2024! I was so excited to see him! (I have kids his age and enjoyed seeing him at work) He told me he came back because he needed the money. He shared he is hoping to get a living donor. If he can’t he gets put on the list for a deceased donor…which is about a 5-7 year wait. So far he does not need dialysis…but it’s coming.
He has been approved by his doctors to work part time and short shifts. He does have symptoms of dizziness and pain, as well as being tired.
Damian rents a place with his Mom here in Mankato. She also works at Cub West. She helps with what she can. They have a roommate as well to help offset some of the cost of living.
Damian would appreciate help with his medical bills. He has insurance but it doesn’t cover everything. I wanted to give him some money on the spot…but then I thought…what if more people would be willing to help too? So I decided to try a GoFundMe!
