Like a light extinguished, the world grows darker.

On Wednesday, October 11th of 2023 Dan Cartwright's light slipped away suddenly and without warning early in the morning. His wife, Bulah, noticed something was wrong and before the paramedics were there he had already taken his last breath. He died at 69 years old.

There are so many pieces to this that no one is truly prepared for. The loss of a father and provider, the loss of a husband and partner, that grief will take so much time to process. We are all in shock and heartbroken. We’re asking for support to help the family as they take on the burden left by half the income suddenly missing. Every dollar helps cover unexpected costs related to his death and gives them a chance to make it through this heavy time.

Dan was truly one of a kind. He lived a life most people only dreamed of, one full of travel and wild animals! He was loving and always ready with a joke, and he could be patient and serious when it mattered. He always took care of his family and friends and carved a path for himself many will never take.

There’s something to be said for someone who could tame the wild beast and make it his friend.

His love of animals and his genuine gift of understanding them and training them (and their handlers) took him all over the world. He worked with every kind of animal from tigers and bears to marine mammals such as dolphins, seals and orcas, and finally set up his own independent business training dogs and their humans to live happily and harmoniously. He worked with veterans and their service animals and even became a favorite choice for dog friendly wine tours. The support he brought to clients, coworkers, colleagues, family and friends will be dearly missed.

He was one of 7 siblings, a father of two children (Alda Rose and Nigel), and a loving husband and partner to Bulah.

There's nothing that heals the wound of the heart when someone dear to us leaves us so suddenly, but with your help our goal is to honor Dan's memory and take care of his family as they grieve and take time to figure out what is next in life.
