Dan Dermody Memorial Fund

The UMass Dartmouth Department of Athletics joins the entire campus community in mourning the loss of Dan Dermody, who earned a master’s degree in public policy from the University and was a longtime friend and benefactor.

Dan passed away unexpectedly on May 16th.  A member of the Taunton City Council, Dan’s legacy of public service over a quarter century to the city of Taunton and to the Southeastern Massachusetts community is matched by his commitment to his alma mater’s student-athletes, for whom he worked tirelessly to provide internship and networking opportunities as well as support for Corsair Athletics, most notably the football program.

“Dan’s impact on our student-athletes was both far-reaching and lasting,” UMass Dartmouth Director of Athletics Amanda Van Voorhis said of Dermody.  “He was always so proud of their accomplishments and so giving of his time to help them take the next step of their journey.  His love for athletics was deeply rooted in our football program, but it extended throughout our entire Corsair family.  He will truly be missed.”

“The UMass Dartmouth community, and certainly our program, lost one of its staunchest supporters with Dan’s passing,” UMass Dartmouth Head Football Coach Mark Robichaud said of Dermody.  “Dan was so active within our program--he raised money, he coordinated our Internship program, but most importantly, he loved supporting and being around our team.  Dan's son Luke is our #1 fan and loved coming to practices and games.  Dan touched so many lives in our program, and his passing is a huge loss for the University.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Luke and his family.”

All proceeds will go directly to the Dermody family to help with funeral costs and Luke's education.
