Dan Needs Us: Support His Fight Against Esophageal Cancer

Donation protected
On Friday morning December 27th Daniel Card was diagnosed with Distal Adenocarcinoma (Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer).

On Boxing Day, Thursday, December 26th, Dan Card went to the ER for what he thought were ongoing symptoms of pancreatitis that he had been diagnosed with in early November.

What followed was a diagnosis of cancer in the early morning of December 27th from the Emergency Physician with confirmation the following day that it was Esophageal cancer that has spread from the Internal Medicine team.

To say this was an unexpected diagnosis is an understatement. Dan’s only risk factor for esophageal cancer was recurring reflux. It was only diagnosed because the ER Physician was checking his pancreatitis from the month prior with a CT scan. Dan had a CT scan in November which did not show a tumor or any signs of one. The Internal Medicine Specialist at Royal Columbian explained she has not seen a case like Dan’s before and she is equally as shocked.

This family has already been through a lot over the last several years. For those who don’t know, together Dan and Jessica have 5 children. They have been raising Jessica’s boy’s full-time since their father had a medical emergency in 2023. All 5 children are very close to each other and are leaning on each other during these difficult times.

The treatment is likely to be hard and aggressive as the cancer is in the advanced stage and very difficult to treat. Dan is self-employed as a Realtor, and although he has a team of people who will help with his business while he undergoes treatment, his income will surely suffer while he goes through this. This is where you come in.

Dan's fight is one that no one should have to face alone. He has always been the kindest, funniest, and most generous of all of us. Now, as he prepares to endure the grueling journey of treatment, he needs our support to ensure that his focus can remain on healing, not the weight of financial stress.

This is our chance to give back to someone who has always given so much of himself. By coming together, we can help Dan, Jess, and their children through this incredibly difficult time and remind them that they are not alone in this fight. Every contribution, no matter the size, is a way to show our love and support for a man who means so much to all of us. Let’s help lighten their burden and give them the strength to face the road ahead.
