Dan Long's Lung Cancer expense
Thank you for visiting Daniel Long’s Go Fund Me page! Your Prayers, love and support are appreciated more that you know!
We have started this fund in order to help my dad Dan and his wife Jessica Long pay for medical expenses, and travel expenses during the past 9 months.
On July 29th of 2016 our Dad, Husband, Brother, and Pa found out he had a mass in his left lung a was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. The doctor reported that the mass was too large and close to his aorta to be operated on. The options were to receive Chemotherapy and Radiation to hopefully shrink the mass in order to operate and remove it or to remove his left lung completely. In September after 6 weeks of chemo and radiation another scan was performed and the Doctor felt it was the only chance to remove the cancer. On October 16th they attempted to remove the mass, and ended up completely removing the lung successfully with a pneumonectomy.
After a few weeks of being at home a whirlwind of issues started from losing weight (over 26 lbs) and having a hard time breathing (even on the oxygen) to being in extreme pain and coughing up fluids. A few routine check ups never caught any issues until he went into the ER with extreme pain and hard breathing. They sent him back with no significant results. The day after Thanksgiving, he said it was finally too much and he had Jessica take him to the emergency room again and after they performed another scan and bronchial found that there was a hole in the stump where his lung was removed ( 2 months of recovery). His Heart was in AFIB going crazy with from real high to lower blood pressure within seconds, O2 would drop drastically and his heart rate would go from 60BPM to 150 BPM within the same screen. They put him on a feeding tube as he was not healthy enough to go through surgery. On December 7th Dan and Jessica flew commercially to Saint Mary’s Mayo Clinic hospital in Rochester, MN to have the hole closed. They were able to repair the fistula on December 13th, or so we had hoped.
He immediately felt better and was able to return home on Christmas Eve (picture) with not even needing oxygen for the first time!
February '17 came, and he began feeling more and more sick and weak. Multiple ER visits with many scans to figure out what is going on. They admitted him on March 5th and the next morning did another bronchial scope to find another leak. The next day he was life flighted to Mayo clinic who did the original procedure where he went into critical condition, diagnosed with pneumonia in his lung but within hours they were able to stabilize him in the ICU. On the 7th they sedated him heavily to where his lung would be able to recover and hasnt been able to be concious since then. March 14th they did a surgery to go into his left side and clean any infection and inspect for the repair. He is set to go through a Surgery on the 16th depending how his body is responding, and needs at least 2 more surgeries in the near future to stabilize my dad.
This has been a rollercoaster of a recovery for him and his wife Jessica and we're asking for any amount of donation as it would be a blessing. Even if you cannot donate please share and spread the word about my dad, please! Thank you for your time and consideration.
-.-.- may 10th-.- It's hard to say that my dad has passed. He struggled with his battle for 9 months, had 1 lung removed, and many complications since then. On may 4th around midnight 1 am he had a rough battle. Was moved to icu and couldn't get stabilized. Doctors worked on him continously but his heart stopped. It could have been a heart attack or blood clot, either way my dad is In peace right now. He won't have to suffer through his long journey anymore. We appreciate everyone who has donated and gave support with prayers, kind words, food, and love. We are asking to help once again with donations to help with the cost for his medical expenses, the many hours of no income for his house hold, and travel expenses in lieu of flowers for his ceremony. He has a huge, loving family that will miss him dearly. His obituary is located here: http://m.tomblinsonfuneralhome.com/obituaries/events?obituaryId=1761842
