Dan Roberts fighting AML Leukemia
Donation protected
Hi. This is hard and humbly heartfelt to write...Dan Roberts needs your help. Dan is in the fight for his life. He was diagnosed August 21, 2023 with a very rare and very aggressive subtype form of AML Leukemia. (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). It is cancer of the bone marrow and blood that progresses rapidly without aggressive treatment which is incredibly expensive. Dan is humble and simple. For 15 years Dan has worked as a substitute teacher in the Honolulu school district in the beautiful town of Waikiki, HI, where he loved and was welcomed as “their own” since 2012. He too recently began sharing more of his time back home in Oregon with his 2 adult sons and extended family and friends, working and serving for the Tigard, Tualatin, and Astoria/Seaside school districts as well. He lights up telling stories about his years serving these High School and Middle Schoolers, and is very sad to end his career so abruptly.
His needs are great and his bills are surmounting.
He has had had 2 hospital stays: Stay #1 for 35 days, home for only 5 days, and went right back in for stay #2 for 5 days. He will need a bone marrow transplant. His medical team began the search for a match for a bone marrow donor. Please pray they find one. When that occurs, he will be in the hospital for months. For now he is home with his “new” schedule of daily OHSU Dr appointments, blood transfusions and upcoming round #2 of chemotherapy starting next week.
We will keep you posted with updates on his health journey and continued needs and plan to create and post a caringbridge link so you can follow his story.
Prayers are needed and felt.
Dan sends his love to all his beach volleyball, surfing, Honolulu, Astoria, Seaside family and friends and classmates. He gives you all a big hug and thank you. He wants to tell his classmates (class of '74) Astoria High School “...see you September of next year at the 50th reunion."
Please share. Thank you.
