Dan Schetter needs your help!

It’s been 18 long, frightening months since my nephew Dan got sick. Healthy one day, bedridden the next. His life was literally torn from him and we want him to get it back. Though some doctors have given names to some of his ailments, not one has been able to help him get better. Month after month, my sister and her husband watch as their son becomes weaker and thinner and increasingly depressed. They need help, and they need it soon!
In May of 2017, my talented 22-year old nephew, Dan Schetter, graduated with honors from Arizona State University. Exceptionally talented in film production, he started contracting out his work and quickly gained the attention of many in the business. During this time he began to notice he wasn’t feeling quite right. But he pushed through it and continued working long hours. It paid off and he was offered an excellent position June 2018.
Midway through his first day on the job, Dan suddenly collapsed at work. It was as though a "switch" went off in his body and his nightmare began.
He began to experience a plethora of debilitating physical and neurological symptoms that did not resolve. Within weeks he realized he was dealing with something that might not be easily fixed, and told his new employer to be fair, he would not be able to take the position at this time. This was a huge blow. He had worked so hard to achieve his dream, only to have it snatched away the minute he grabbed hold of it.
Many months, and numerous medical appointments later, he was diagnosed with Dysautonomia/POTS, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and nerve death, along with serious GI issues. Simplistically, his body is attacking itself. Most doctors have little or no knowledge of how to specifically treat these rare conditions. His case is complicated by the fact he has so many issues, and likely has more as yet detected. Nothing has helped, and his health has declined to the point he can barely leave the house. Doctor appointments take every ounce of energy.
Though he has been seen by a host of highly rated doctors of various specialties, including physicians at the Mayo Clinic, not one of them has been able to come up with a successful treatment plan.
In the meantime, mobile IV units come to his home on a regular basis. Dan's GI tract is unable to properly absorb his food and the nutrients he needs. He also loses fluids almost as soon as they enter his body.
With each passing month, with no improvement whatsoever, we're feeling desperate to find answers before he becomes completely bedridden. Dan was just on the brink of starting his adult life, and he has so much to give and still has so much living to do.
Recently, we found a beacon of hope. Dan reached out to his online support group and discovered there is a doctor in Denver, Colorado who has been successful with many similar patients. This was confirmed by reaching out on other health blogs and hearing of others who have been helped by her when no one else could. However, if Dan is lucky enough to be accepted as a patient, appointments and therapies are not covered by insurance. Each visit will require a 14-hour drive from Arizona to Colorado, as Dan’s health could not tolerate the pressurized cabin on a plane.
This doctor has given many people their life back. Due to her success, new patients must wait months until they can be seen. The initial visit is 3+ hours long, unheard of in today’s medical climate. His medical bills are mounting as his health is declining. We believe we have found help. Unfortunately, we’re running out of money. Dan's unemployed due to his health condition and his parents are maxed out. In a year Dan will no longer qualify to remain on his father's insurance for all his mounting medical bills.
I know there are many worthy causes to donate to. Please pray for his recovery, and if you are able, please make a donation to help get Dan back on his feet. He is anxious to start working again so he can pay off his student loans! I guarantee, this is a young man who will make a difference in this world. Be a part of it! Thank you and God Bless!
