Dana Fletcher-Fundraiser for wife and daughter
Donation protected
39-year-old Dana Sherrod Fletcher was harassed and murdered by police in Madison, AL on October 27, 2019, while sitting in the passenger seat of his vehicle with his 8-year-old daughter and his wife, who had just returned to the van after finishing a workout at the gym. When Dana requested to know why he was being harassed, police officers pulled a gun on him, began pulling and punching him while he was seated in his van, sic’d a K-9 on him in the van, tased him, and ultimately shot him multiple times, including after he was already on the ground, and all without telling him why they were even there. Local authorities investigated themselves and immediately began staging a coverup, changing their story in the media several times before trying to close the books on Dana’s murder by quickly finding that his shooting was justified, all without releasing ANY of the body cam video footage from ANY of the FIVE officers who engaged with the Fletcher family that day.
Dana’s family cannot and will not be silent when we know that neither truth nor justice has been served in this case. We continue to fight, not just to bring awareness to Dana’s tragic murder and demand accountability for it, but also to enact sensible laws in Alabama that would make body cam footage available to certain classes of people who have had encounters with law enforcement. We hold weekly demonstrations near the site where the Madison Police Department murdered Dana where we pass out flyers, stage sit-ins at Madison City Council meetings, and attend legislative events and other programs around the state to advocate for more transparency and accountability for law enforcement‘s mistreatment of innocent citizens.
We appreciate any financial assistance towards the family’s campaign for justice and towards the everyday financial needs of Dana’s widow and child.
