Dana Hoggan's Below-Knee Amputation
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sara (I'm on the left in the photo), and I'm raising funds for my good friend Dana Hoggan (right), whom I met over 40 years ago while working on film projects in our hometown of Palo Alto, California. Over our shoulders are our younger selves as we appeared when working on Dana's Star Trek movie in 1982. I think we've aged pretty darn well.
Dana has fallen on hard times recently, trying to recover from multiple injuries to her right foot for the last decade. It has involved numerous surgeries and extended hospital stays. These had limited her mobility while she attempted to recover. Unfortunately, the structure of the foot has collapsed due to a condition called Charcot, and the decision has been made to amputate.
Dana lost her mother, Irene, in February. She was her mother's primary caregiver, and over the last few years, their relationship had grown more vital to the point that they relied heavily upon one another. At the same time, they both suffered from severe medical conditions.
The funds raised will cover Dana's rent while she recovers from her surgery. This will free up other funds for her medical expenses, including making her home ADA-compliant, mounting copays, and ride-share transportation to and from her medical appointments. Dana also hopes to have her surgery performed at Stanford Medical Center after forming a solid bond with their staff. This will require Dana's temporary relocation to the Bay Area from Sacramento, where she currently resides, while she recovers from the surgery and undergoes physical rehabilitation.
Any funds raised beyond the goal will help Dana upgrade her prosthesis to return to the same activity level she enjoyed before her injury. Any amount you can spare is greatly appreciated and will positively impact Dana's future.
