On Wednesday, December 13, after several days of dizziness and headaches, Dana was admitted to Gwinnett Medical Hospital. After several more days of testing, an MRI, and brain surgery on December 21, the Perry's recieved the news that Dana has Stage 4 Glioblastoma (GBL). In addition to the surgery to try to remove as much of the tumor as possible, the next day (December 22), Dana had to have a crainiotomy to remove a large portion of the right side of her skull to relieve pressure in her brain.
Several more days of intubation, drainage tubes, etc. followed and Dana is now at a "stable" point. Stable - for her condition. Dana does have paralysis on her left side as a result of the location of the tumor. Another MRI is scheduled for Friday, January 5th to determine next steps and treatment options. Following that, the plan is for Dana to be released from the hospital on Monday, January 8.
After meeting with the Social Worker and Hospital Staff, it appears that releasing Dana to her home is the best option. We are overwhelmed by this decision, but are trying to embrace this option and prepare for this. This move will require a great deal of medical equipment and both professional and volunteer care. The type of insurance coverage that Dana has only provides minimal coverage. We are anticipating a great deal of medical expenses to follow.
Please prayfully consider donating to the Perry's medical expenses. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact Jennifer or Alex Campbell.
