Dana Gill's Family Needs Our Help

John Dooley, the son of our LOW Rider sister, Dana Gill, is in the ICU in San Antonio with COVID-19. Both he and his wife, Mysti, contracted COVID in late July. Fortunately, Mysti has recovered, but John was hospitalized earlier this month in North Texas. Late last week, he was found unresponsive and was intubated. Mama Dana, who is a nurse, booked it up from San Antonio and was able to get him transferred. John was flown to San Antonio where he is now in ICU. His condition is such that he can receive ECMO treatments, but his physicians anticipate John being hospitalized for months before he can go to rehabilitation.

As you can imagine, the financial impact will be enormous. Financial assistance is needed immediately and will also be long-term. As both Mysti and John were unable to work in July and August, they need some help with rent and living expenses. John’s insurance will not cover the cost of the flight, two ambulance transfers, or the out-of-network care in San Antonio. Mysti had to take Family Medical Leave as she has no more paid time off. As a consequence, much of the medical/financial liability will have to be paid directly by John and Mysti.

John is such a special young man. And as a cancer survivor, we saw that he is a fighter. We know John has the will to fight in the face of his current and coming challenges. We all want John on the mend, to have access to whatever care he needs, and to be able to get back to his life with Mysti with as few medical/financial encumbrances as possible. Any support you can provide will have a significant impact and will be greatly appreciated.
