DZALEKA REFUGEE CAMP
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
After the online release of our special short documentary film Dance for Change, we are excited to launch our new campaign to accompany the release. We aim to achieve a high level of impact for the communities surrounding the film and hope you can donate and support the cause for creatives worldwide.
Thank you to the incredibly generous donors who managed to get this project over the line. We can't begin to thank you enough for your support on our film project and the opportunities it has created. Let’s use this momentum to keep this positivity rolling!
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE > IMPACT CAMPAIGN:
To accompany the release of the film, we move again to raise money for the dancers of Dzaleka. We hope that by finding backing for these young talents that the dance scene in the camp will continue to flourish. Your money will go directly to the dancers and their families to help with the basic costs of living as well as equipment and clothing necessary to improve their discipline.
It is really hard to make money as a refugee in Malawi with very little employment rights and work permits rarely granted. Until the laws are changed, the inhabitants of Dzaleka have to make their own way. This film highlights inspirational creatives finding alternative methods for making money and improving their mental well-being.
> Donate to this crowdfunder and make more space for creativity to prosper. <
SHORT TERM GOALS:
We aim to raise funds for the dancers and their families so they have enough money to buy equipment, trainers and essentials that help facilitate their creative outlet and careers. This enables the dancers to unite and work towards a better future.
BOOK THEIR TALENT:
It is a united dream of these dancers to find stages on which to perform. We want to create more ticketed opportunities for these crews to receive proper payment for their talents. Let’s get these dancers booked by international artists, shows and festivals the worldwide. If you know a booking agent or festival looking for a unique and contemporary dance group please, please get in touch, you are the key!
LONG TERM GOALS:
To create a fund that can facilitate screenings across East Africa, to camps in other countries such as Zambia and Kenya that have been impacted by the same issues as these Dancers.
We wish to share this story of hope and inspiring creativity to use the performing arts as a vehicle for change.
By watching the film and being inspired by this hopeful and positive story we would want to encourage talks, Q and A's and performances from Dzaleka to implement new creative structures. This is an ongoing project.
IMPACT GOALS:
Improve the wellbeing of refugees internationally, encourage integration and celebration of culture. Using art as a vehicle for self-expression and change. Changing the narrative of refugees worldwide.
