Charge-4-All Cures a Luis Barragan Foundation will be dedicating the fundraising for the year 2021 to Jeanette Mayra Valdez. Jeanette's mother Ofelia is Luis' cousin. I know Luis would be delighted to help anyone but Jeanette is extra special, not just because they are related. If you have had the pleasure of interacting with Jeanette I know you would agree that what makes her special is the love for life you see in her eyes the contagious smile she ALWAYS has.
I'd like to share what the last 30 years in the life of Jeanette has been like. Jeanette was born in 1991. In 1992 she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome Pre-Leukemia and Thrombocytopenia. In 1993 at 2 years old she had her first bone marrow transplant and a week of chemotherapy. In 1994 she endure her second round of bone marrow accompanied by 3 days chemotherapy and 3 days of full body radiation. For the bone marrow transplants her older brother Ivan was the donor. Fast forward some years and her list of diagnosis grew as she got older. In 1999 she is diagnosed with Petit Mal Seizures followed by diabetes in 2002. Jeanette had her Gallbladder removed in 2007 then in 2009 her ovaries were also removed. Jeanette had a bit of a break but that was short lived. In 2015 Jeanette had a breast lump removed. In December of the same year Jeanette had breast ductal carcinoma in situ surgery. A short month later January 2016 she has a thoracic spine mass resulting in paraparesis of the right leg. A month later, February 2016 doctors find a 2.5 cm enhancing mass in her kidney compatible with renal carcinoma, which was removed. The year of 2019 she started dialysis and has been continuing it ever since. This is just a short list of her medical diagnosis and treatments.
Two months ago, in March 2021 the colon cancer came back from remission and as if that was not enough April 2021 Jeanette gets pneumonia. From that point on Jeanette went into a sepsis induced coma and was on life support for 8 days. Last week doctors found blood clots in both legs but left is worse and might result in limb loss.
Jeanette's family has always been there every step of the way united and loving. They are such strong people and Jeanette definitely inherited her parents' good spirit. Hence the smile you always see on Jeanette's face. Both of her parents have accompanied her and your generosity would be a blessing to them all.
