Dance Project of Washington Heights
Proudly wearing her tutu and ballet slippers, four-year-old Sadie climbs the stairs to her dance class. There she joins her fellow Washington Heights dancers to plié, battement and saute.
But much more is happening…
She learns to follow directions, focus, play and the beginnings of dance speak. Now, galloping becomes chasse for this 4-year old.
Class fees and contracts don’t determine who gets to dance —a desire to learn does. Parents PAY-WHAT-THEY-CAN at the Dance Project of Washington Heights.
Our 29 age-specific classes — teaching everything from Ballet and Hip Hop to Tap and Creative Movement —include newborns to teenagers. Not only do our students learn to dance, they learn about each other in these ethnically and economically diverse classes. While other places may divide into haves and have-nots, DPWH is one community.
And we’re growing to meet the demands of our community. We plan to add eight more classes in October. Can you help us grow?
We’d like to use the funds raised here to help other children with dance equipment like ballet and tap shoes. We also need mirrors.
To help build the community inside and outside the classroom, we’re hoping to fund a waiting room for parents and caretakers. Adults can get to know their neighbors like the kids do in the classroom.
Dance Project of Washington Heights is about moving a community as one. Please help us continue to move forward with your donation.
