Hi! I’m Asia Bain, and I am a competitive dancer at Robin Cotler Dance Center. Dance has always been a special part of my life since the small age of 8. I’ve become extremely close and committed to my coaches, teammates, and the art itself.
Dance does come with extreme expenses all including: tuition, competition and convention fees, costumes, community outreach, etc. My lovely teacher (and second mom) has been loving and patient with my family, and still gives me the benefit to continue dancing with her, and even join her in New York CIty.
However, the prices have been building up and have been causing havoc with my family, not including the bills already set for our home. These bills will sadly keep building up until I graduate, and about now they’ve reached up to over $5,500 (not including upcoming monthly fees). I love dancing. It’s one of my only ways to function throughout the day, and I can’t imagine my life without it. I often feel guilty setting this burden on my hardworking mom and dad, whom deserves the world for allowing me to continue. She sacrifices everything for me to keep dancing, and all we need is the help and support of our lovely friends and family.
I’m trying my hardest to do what I can in school, dance, and even finding little ways to make money (even if it’s a little contribution). I’m an AP, Dual Enrollment , and AICE student. I have over 200 community service hours. I am in 6 clubs in my school. I’m #18 out of 869 students in my grade. I’m even starting tutoring programs at my studio. I’m a hardworking student and athlete, who is doing my best to be someone, and my missing piece is to continue my dancing resume, so I can attend college and competitions in the future.
