Dani Paulson - Moving Forward

We who know Dani Paulson appreciate her as a loving and caring person who is always thinking of others. She has had far more than her share of trials and tribulations and has always responded with resilience and optimism.
In May 2020, Dani was in a car crash that she barely survived. She was in a coma for almost a week, suffered multiple injuries, broken bones and required emergency open heart surgery. Her fiancé, Robert, died in the accident. Over the past year, Dani has courageously battled her way back physically, mentally and emotionally. For those of us who have witnessed any part of this journey, exacerbated by the challenges of a time of pandemic, her progress has been nothing short of amazing. Many have helped, but her own drive and determination have been the central engine.
When Dani was discharged from the hospital, she found herself in immediate need of funds, clothing, food and hygiene items. Brewster coordinated an initial Go Fund Me that raised more than $8,000 and friends and friends of friends also contributed food, clothing and toiletry donations that literally helped her get back on her feet.
A year has passed. Dani has been incredibly frugal as she has continued to heal physically and rebuild a life. She has been actively seeking employment since February 2021, and working part time providing personal care to an elderly woman, but the regular work she is now eager to engage in has been hard to find -- worsened by pandemic challenges, not having regular transportation, and the challenges of continued recovery from life threatening injuries.
The initial Go Fund Me helped immensely. A year later, it’s time to ask for a little more from those in a position to assist.
Dani now needs help specifically to cover:
- rent/utilities in a home with her new roommates
- groceries to eat healthy and stay strong
- veterinary care for Fiona (her adorable senior cat)
- a hand-me-down iPhone compatible with T-Mobile
Just a year ago, her friends wondered if Dani would be able to survive and regain her physical and mental functions. She has made nothing short of miraculous progress this year through giant strides and some small ones. She continues to heal.
From Dani:
“Thank you all so much for your generosity and support that have helped me get through this past year. I am grateful to have friends and my chosen family who truly care about me and love me and I was shocked and humbled by the generosity of strangers even in the midst of a pandemic. I am continuing to work on my progress with healing physically and coping with the loss of Robert. Thank you very much for your continued support.”
Please consider giving what you can, so that Dani can continue to pay her rent, take care of her kitty’s health and keep her head above water. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this GoFundMe on social media.

The following note is from Dani’s doula who has been helping her through her loss since 2020:
“As a grief doula and counselor who has supported Dani since last fall, I can speak to the many challenges Dani has faced over the past year. Dani lost her life partner and her home in a single blow, an incredibly difficult set of circumstances that would have overwhelmed most people. She has worked hard over the last year to heal not only from serious physical injuries but to take care of herself and others even as she moves through deep grief. In the present moment, Dani continues to push herself in her ongoing search for full-time employment, even as she has worked as a part-time home health caregiver and manages her community house, applied for disability benefits, and lives very frugally. Please consider supporting Dani in this transitional time of need as she continues to rebuild and get more fully back on her feet.”
