Danica's Medical Expenses
Hi everyone, I'm Ashley, Danica's mom. We are fundraising on her behalf to help cover the medical expenses incurred from surgery during this difficult time.
Danica is a bright, sassy and vivacious 4 yr old, with a happy go lucky attitude.
On June 30th, 2020 we took Danica, our 3 year old, in for some xrays of her arm due to abnormal swelling that wasn't going away. Well boy did we get a surprise when the results came in! There was a very large mass located in the bone of her forearm. It is called an ABC Tumor (Anyuersmal Bone Cyst) a highly destructive benign bone tumor which is very uncommon in children this age and occurring in less than 1 in 100,000 people per year.
July 2020 after multiple visits with our pediatric oncologist and orthopedist at CHOP, Danica had surgery within a month of the initial diagnosis. The tumor was the size of a large egg and the bone left surrounding it was eggshell thin. The tumor was deteriorating the bone surrounding it rapidly. The bone shattered during the surgery but the Dr. was able to completely remove the thankfully Benign tumor! They put in a synthetic bone graft that will grow along with her and disapate as her bone heals. Surgery was a success! The next 6 weeks she spent in a full arm cast. No fun for a 3yr old who constantly wants to be playing and on the go But luckily, her BFF "Ellie the Elephant" received the same treatment so she had a sidekick to help her get through.
Danica will have new scans and checkups every 6 weeks for the next 2 years, to ensure there is no regrowth. The following scan was from October showing the amazing recovery process and bone regrowth. We are so blessed to be on the upside of this hill.
Unfortunately during the trying times of the pandemic, my husband and I were out of work and the medical expenses mounting up aren't making things better. The costs are ongoing due to follow up visits and scan. 100% of donations will go to cover the past and ongoing medical costs. Any donations or sharing will help.
