Daniel Carlson's Eagle Scout Project

My name is Daniel Carlson a Life Scout in Troop 16 in Middletown, CT, and I am raising funds for my Eagle Scout Project, Middletown Waterfront Fishing Line Recycling Project.

I have noticed a lot of fishing line on the boardwalk along the Connecticut River in Middletown. According to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), carelessly discarded fishing line can fatally injure wildlife. Animals see the fishing line and try to eat it or get tangled in it.

The DEEP reports that there are 35 receptacles set up in Connecticut throughout 21 towns. However, there are no fishing line receptacles in Middletown. Having these bins in Middletown will make a difference for wildlife along the Connecticut River by giving fisherman a place to properly dispose of fishing line, hooks, lures, and weights. They also benefit Middletown residents by keeping the Harbor Park area cleaner and safer by cutting down on harmful waste.
