Daniel Cavallaro's Medical Fundraiser

Dear Daniel Cavallaro’s family and extended community,

Our friend and long-time Nevada County community member is in desperate need of our help! Whether Daniel has touched you through his grand, contagious laugh that lights up entire rooms, his generosity helping you move homes, a dance together in shared space, family ties or maybe he’s touched you as simply a friend of a friend. He has been a stable face within the local Nevada City/Grass Valley, California community and is in a dire situation that only all of us coming together with our resources can get him out of.

Daniel has reached points of instability on multiple levels, physically, financially, emotionally, and mentally that require a higher level of care than he can provide for himself. That’s where we come in; together to help him get the support he truly needs to be healthy and thriving again on all levels. Daniel has had a hard time asking for help, but he needs us now more than ever.

As many closest to Daniel know, he has struggled immensely for years with healing from the psychological trauma from the abusive treatment he endured in his previous marriage for a decade. More recently over the last few months, Daniel has also been navigating some intense health issues, particularly in early November when he suffered a severe physically traumatic episode that came seemingly out-of-nowhere leading to his hospitalization.

It began with a debilitating pain in his leg, rendering him unable to walk and as the days went on, he then developed severe chest pain. He ended up checking himself into the hospital after coughing up blood with extremely labored breathing. As it turns out, his leg pain was caused by an embolism (also known as a blood clot) which became dislodged and then traveled onwards thereby getting caught in his lungs; a subsequent MRI showed some loss of lung tissue. Daniel was hospitalized for 4 days on oxygen while the doctors gave him necessary life-saving care.

He is walking again and gaining energy back little by little, but his doctor has instructed him not to travel by air or do any physical labor for at least 6 months, and has also put him on blood thinners and an oxygen tank to use as needed. He typically does physical labor type work as one of his income streams, but is now left unable to lean on this avenue for support.

Because of these and other extenuating circumstances, he’s deeply in debt and at risk of losing his housing.

I’m calling on our loving community to help him get out of the hole he’s in. I know many of us can relate to the struggle of being debilitated due to circumstances both within and especially beyond our control, and the stress & depression that it can result in is honestly almost as bad as the actual issue.

THE PLAN SO FAR:

Those closest to Daniel have come up with a plan to help him get back to thriving again; a way he can be held in healing the deeper psychological issues that have weighed him down for so long, as well as be supported physically as he regains energy to find aligned work for the long-term.

In collaboration, a few of us have thought it best for Daniel to go to a rehabilitation facility and undergo inpatient and outpatient treatment there for an extended period. This will allow him a big break from the day-to-day struggle, housed and cared for by professionals, and thereby have a chance for a more full reset of the coping patterns he’s caught in that are less than ideal. Daniel is on board and feels ready on all levels to move forward with this strategy.

We are looking for help in resourcing for those various necessary costs as well as covering the debt he’s accrued as a result of his difficulty working these past few years and now dealing with these big medical issues.

Daniel needs $20,000-30,000 to get back on his feet, including: necessary expenses for a suitable rehab facility and outpatient care, money for the past several months of rent, a vehicle so he can drive to the rehab facility during outpatient treatment, medical bills and diagnostics not covered by insurance, as well as necessary expenses for the rehabilitation experience itself.

If he’s able to regain some sense of stability and grounding in his life, he’ll be able to continue being an incredible friend and community member for all of us!

Please support Daniel through a generous donation if you are able - everything helps.
