Deputy U.S. Marshal Daniel L. Dempsey III passed away unexpectedly after experiencing a medical episode at his home, during the early morning hours of April 11, 2023. Deputy Dempsey had a great impact on many and we appreciate your assistance with honoring his memory by donating in support of his family and celebration of life, at this difficult time.

Daniel L. Dempsey III, lived a distinguished life of service to his state and country--most recently, serving as a Deputy U.S. Marshal with the U.S. Marshals Service. During his 20-year career with the US Marshals, Deputy Dempsey served in the District of Colombia District Court, the District of Connecticut, the District of Massachusetts and finally, his home state, the District of New Hampshire. Deputy Dempsey had a commendable career, with notable highlights including but not limited to; closing over 1,000 fugitive apprehension investigations and leading the recovery missions of missing children.
Deputy Dempsey started his law enforcement career in 1994, with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, where he was promoted to Corporal and served until 2003.
Prior service to our country includes; Army (1988-1992) Operation Desert Storm Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division.
Deputy Dempsey earned a Bronze Star Medal: “For exceptional meritorious achievement, during time of war, while assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade, 3rd Armored Division from 24 February to 4 March 1991. Specialist Dempsey superbly performed his duties. His courage in facing an unknown and hostile environment, not only was a factor in his ability to perform but also an inspiration to those who served with him. Specialist Dempsey’s loyalty and dedication reflect great credit upon him, the 3rd Armored Division and the United States Army.” His selfless leadership saved many lives.
On a personal front, Dan loved his family, his motorcycle and guns, skiing, kayaking and hunting beyond measure.
Dan is survived by his wife Cindy, 2 sons Tyler and Joshua, his daughter Cori, his niece Anna, and 2 long-term fosters Amy and “Sissy.”
