Daniel Nealand Funeral Fund

After several years battling cancer, kidney failure and CMT, our brave and kind papa, Daniel Dean Nealand, passed onwards to the next great adventure in the sky/universe/cosmos.

Dad was a gentle soul who covered alot of ground in his living: from  the Mohave Dessert,  CA (where he was born at Edwards Airforce Base in 1945), rural Selkirk, NY (where he grew up), to Colorado in the 1960's (where he was a young rock musician, journalist, and spiritual student), to San Francisco (where he met our mom, Ruth, in a music store in 1967). Dad loved music, spiritual discussions, the National Archives, and was one of the most creative, searching and unconventional people we knew. He was the oldest brother in a family of 3 kids (with Aunt Kathy and Uncle Jim).

He had 5 kids himself: Shawn, Sasha, Eireene, Tosh & Aurora. He raised his children from birth as life-long vegetarians (before vegetarianism became a national fad in the 90's),  gave us a deep appreciation of mysticism, nature,  kindness, Stravinsky, The Marx Brothers, JRR Tolkien, Jazz and Donovan. He never pushed us to 'succeed' or 'conform', or be anything other than ourselves. Sometimes we lived in beach shacks (along the Pacific ocean, until they washed away), in the car, in small apartments in SF, in trailers in friends backyards, the wild rocky mountains of Colorado, and back again amongst the seals & tide pools in Moss Beach (along highway 1).

He worked long hours (day and night jobs) to be able to support his family as best he could. Though we know these last few years of battling with cancer, kidney failure (and a life-long battle with CMT) were very hard and taxing, he very rarely complained, and continued to sing, play music, and recommend us books he found interesting. Dad was an amazing singer, and composed and recorded alot of truly wild and original songs!!

Dad was deeply interested in the teachings of the Kabbalah, and believed in the power of "the unshakeable reality of the conscious light/life/lucidity that fills the multiverse" to guide us towards kindness.

In dad's own words (in an email he once sent with 'parental advice'):

" Love circulates. The real world is the magical world and 'God'/Yod is immediate right here holding up the floor and us standing on it.  And thank Life for putting both of us here (wherever that mystery is), to circulate love. "   - Dan Nealand

None of us surviving Nealands (Ruth, Sasha, Eireene, Aurora) have made much in the way of monetary riches (though certainly we are rich in friends and love). We are intending to lay our father to rest in a spot near our brother, Tosh, overlooking the hills of the Pacific on Friday Nov 2ncd.  Anything at all you may be able to contribute towards dads funeral/cemetery/burial expenses would be so greatly appreciated.

Be good to eachother and thanks for being a part of our lives, and for loving dear Dan Nealand.
