Daniel Alewine's Heart Surgery
Donation protected
Daniel is a student in my kindergarten class at W. E. Parker Elementary in Edgefield, South Carolina. He is the sweetest boy who can read anything you put in front of him and loves coming to school every day! He is scheduled to have major heart surgery to repair a vascular ring that is wrapped around his trachea and esophagus Thursday, April 2, 2020 at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Daniel and his family desperately need our financial help and prayers. His parents do not have paid vacation and need our help with accommodations in Charleston (the Ronald McDonald House is full), meals, travel, and loss of income.
Daniel’s vascular ring was recently found on a routine chest x-ray for a respiratory infection. This is a congenital heart disease in which the large artery that carries oxygenated blood out of the heart curves right and is wrapped around the esophagus and trachea, and is squeezing them making it difficult to breathe, swallow food, and properly deliver oxygen to Daniel’s body. The surgery is expected to last 9 hours and his parents will not be able to stay in the room with him until three days later. At that point, only one parent at a time is allowed to stay. If everything goes smoothly, Daniel’s mom and dad expect to be in Charleston for at least 15 days.
Daniel’s mom, Kristen, planned for him to continue attending school until a few days prior to the surgery, but he came down with a viral infection the last week of February and will be home-bound to stay healthy for his heart surgery. With the recovery time, he most likely will not be able to return to school until next Fall.
Please join us in supporting this precious boy and his family!
100% of ALL funds donated through this page will be used for the expenses Daniel’s family will face during their time in Charleston for his heart surgery, the hospital costs not covered by insurance, and his parents’ loss of income during this time.
Thank you for your prayers and support as Daniel, his mom Kristen, his dad Kris, and little sister Carrie travel this difficult road to recovery!
