Daniela's Gender Affirming Surgery Fund

Hi, my name is Daniela, best known for being your friend, family member, or a pretty stranger, and I’m raising funds for my upcoming gender-affirming surgery.

I was beginning middle school when I first noticed that my face had started to grow hair. I knew I was supposed to be excited, but all I felt was dread at these changes I didn’t know how to stop. This dread calcified into depression over the course of puberty, and I became lost and directionless for many years. Eventually, I learned that these feelings had names and, more importantly, that there were solutions. When I finally began to take hormones in the summer of 2021, I also began the process of hair removal. Now, when I feel the few, scant hairs that remain, I remember how scared I was, as well as how far I’ve come. That is just one part of a very long journey to get where I am today. Every little joy and victory has confirmed the necessity and urgency of my transition.

However, transitioning is notoriously expensive, and mine has been no different. Between dozens of electrolysis and laser hair removal sessions, the high costs of legal procedures, countless medical and therapy appointments, fees for medication, new clothes and makeup, as well as other transition necessities, the last two and a half years have been the most challenging of my life—financially and emotionally. My resources have dwindled to the point where I now must ask for your help as I get past the highest hurdle.

At the end of January 2024, I will undergo gender-affirming surgery in New York. I know that this procedure will help me live a life more full than I ever dreamed. While insurance will cover many of the costs associated with this procedure, my recovery remains dauntingly expensive. The funds raised here will go to maintaining housing security while in New York and after returning to DC, costs and fees not covered by insurance, and recovery necessities that will guarantee my process is as smooth as possible.
