On Wednesday, November 7, 2018 Danielle went to her doctor with a painful lump in her breast that we thought would be a cyst. Her doctor, expressing concern, sent her for an urgent mammogram and ultrasound the same day, where she was told that she had breast cancer. The next week was packed with a biopsy, MRI, and CT scan. At the end of the week we received more bad news: the biopsy confirmed that the cancer was invasive, and imaging tests revealed that it had spread to her bones. We were suddenly dealing with stage 4 breast cancer at age 33.
The good news, according to our doctors, is that it is now possible for women to live many years with metastatic breast cancer. The bad news is that the disease must be ”managed” indefinitely, possibly without cure. Though we were shocked and frightened, we are trusting that God will heal Danielle and preserve her life, allowing her to raise her little boy into adulthood.
Our course of treatment is primarily hormone therapy. Because the biopsy results show the cancer to be strongly estrogen receptive, treatment will focus on stopping estrogen production (i.e. forcing early menopause) and inhibiting the cancer’s ability to receive estrogen.
Our financial goal is based on our best estimate of treatment costs for the first two years. While this campaign is in part intended to be a buffer for the medical bills in months to come, our first payment of $5,000 is already due this month. Your donations will be immediately helpful in drefraying the considerable cost of ourtreatment.
We are grateful to all of you who are offering your support during this difficult time. The most important thing you can do to help is to pray boldly and earnestly for Danielle's full healing and for peace of mind. The second is to send Danielle your notes of encouragement. It has done us a world of good to hear from family, friends, and strangers who are all praying for us and lovingly expressing their support. Lastly, we ask that you consider donating toward our treatment fund.
Thank you for your contributions. We know that we are not alone, and we look forward in hope with all of you.
