Danielle Ogaard

Hi, my name is Christine, and I'm fundraising for my twin sister, Danielle. My sister was diagnosed with Crohns Disease (an intestinal illness) many years ago, and has had complications from it over those years. Unfortunately there is no cure for Crohns Disease, so it's an illness she'll always have.

Danielle has been unable to work since this Spring, and has exhausted her disability payments, as well as sick pay. Andy (her husband), has been working during this time, picking up extra shifts when he's able to, and has been by sisters side through all of this.

She was admitted to the hospital Tuesday evening of October 11th, after she was unable to get around on her own. She was severly dehydrated, malnourished, and is retaining a lot of fluid. She has getting food (TPN), and liquids via IVs. She ended up having a partially blocked bowel, potential septic shock, and is being treated for pneumonia, and a bladder infection.

She had a colonsocopy on the evening of October 16th, and her body had a bad reaction to the sedation used. It left her unresponsive, elevated her heart rate, and made her unable to fully breathe on her own. She was moved to the ICU that evening, and placed on a bi pap machine, to take pressure off of her body from working so hard to breath, and fight off her infections.

She regained consciousness late Monday morning, when my parents and I went to visit her. She was also able to slowly move her hands, arms, legs, and feet. She was able to speak, but her speech was slow, and slurred. She is doing physical therapy, occupational therapy, and seeing a respiratory therapist several times a day.

Danielle has continued to make slow progress, but she still has an elevated heart rate, gets short of breath easily, needs to use an oxygen mask, and is not currently able to be mobile.

Once she is discharged from the hospital, she will be placed in convalescent nursing care to regain strength and independence to do everyday tasks.
