On Tuesday, April 24th Dani’s life was forever changed as she was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After receiving this devastating news, we reported to KU Pediatric Oncology the following morning to begin testing, labs, evaluation and schedule scans for the following week. On our drive home, the Doctor called and asked us to immediately return to the hospital, they had found a large mediastinal mass in her chest. The doctors and medical staff jumped into action, taking aggressive measures by admitting her; where she spent the next 5 days undergoing numerous tests and procedures. Due to the size of the cancerous mass in her chest, the doctors refused to put her under any form of anesthesia because it was too dangerous. Therefore, Dani had to endure a bone marrow biopsy with no sedation, PET Scan, CT Scan, PICC line, additional x-rays and blood work.
Dani can find humor in almost any situation, and her cancer diagnosis is no exception – she is facing it head-on with humor, sarcasm, and a little bit of attitude. Her chemotherapy will begin on Wednesday, May 2nd and continue for 6 months. With every treatment, procedure, and appointment comes a cost. Costs we could never begin to imagine we would have needed to prepare for.
Family and Friends, we are asking for help. Whether it is prayer, reaching out, or helping to offset costs associated with this diagnosis, we are thankful for any and all of the support we will receive and have already received.
Thank you ALL for your support, prayers, blessings, and HOPE.
