Daniel's Palawan Helicopter Outreach

I'm a Pilot, Mechanic and Paramedic and I've been volunteering as a missionary pilot with Philippine Adventist Medical Aviation Services (PAMAS) for over 6 years in the remote areas of Palawan, Philippines. We are a missionary organization that provides emergency medical transports, educational support, and other humanitarian and mission support to some of the remotest areas of the Philippines.

 

As a helicopter pilot, I have seen first-hand the importance our aviation support is in saving lives and maximizing efficiency in the work. In addition to emergency medevacs, the helicopter is used to help build and support literacy schools and support a variety of missions that will richen the lives of those most in need physically, mentally and spiritually. It's not uncommon that one minute of flight is equivalent to one hour of hiking in the jungles. With the added support of the helicopter, we have been able to branch out, providing access to basic education and emergency evacuations in some of the remotest areas of Palawan.

 

Our work is non-profit, and all of our flights are supported through donations.

Over the last couple years, I've been managing a sub-ministry to support the helicopter work of PAMAS, which is aptly named "Palawan Helicopter Partnership." What that basically means is my goal is to support the helicopter aspect of PAMAS Palawan, relieving the financial burden so that PAMAS can continue to grow and expand in other areas. It has been a huge faith venture, as the finances for fuel, maintenance and basic operations of the helicopter, along with various other ministry projects in Palawan are/have now been covered through this support.

 

God miraculously provided a 1959 Alouette Helicopter that has been a big help for over a year now, which allowed the other PAMAS R44 helicopter to be placed in Mindanao where it can serve the communities in need there.

 

Recently I have realized that most of the areas that I fly into struggle to even to help with the basic fuel costs for a medevac (let alone other operating expenses). Even though I fly for free as a volunteer, there are still large monthly expenses for fuel, oil, maintenance and parts, vehicle upkeep, day to day expenses, etc.

 

A supporter recently asked me to put together a matching fund goal for $10,000 to support this ministry. What that means is that any donations amounting to $10,000 before Thanksgiving Day will be matched (Doubled)! If the $10,000 goal is not met, the funds will not be matched (it's an all or nothing match).

 

Any donations beyond that amount or after that date will still continue to be used to support the same work. Fuel and daily operating expenses are the lifeblood of the ministry, and though not as glamorous or exciting, these day to day needs are what make the vital difference in the lives of these people. Parts  are expensive but they make a lifesaving difference in maintaining the helicopter so we can continue to impact and save lives.
