Dani's transition

Hi I'm Dani and I'm trying to fundraise so that I can pay for my transition. If you are able to donate or spread awareness to help me hit this goal I would really appreciate it. Below is a little more info about me and why I have set up this Gofundme.

When I was little, I was asked the typical question- what do you want to be when you grow up? Back then, the answer was simple. I would flatly respond that I wanted to grow up to be a girl. This idea felt natural to me. Soon I realised it didn’t seem so natural to everybody else. Little Dani felt maybe it was a good idea to hide that part of herself for a while. I could circle back to that issue, and it would all come right eventually.

It turns out growing up to be a trans girl is not quite as easy as I thought. Being transgender is difficult in the UK. After I told my GP back in 2023, they referred me to the gender clinic who told me it will take 5+ years to have an initial appointment. After this, getting surgery can take up to another 35 years. I was shocked. I had felt that coming out would be the hard part. But I think, knowing exactly who you are and still being denied it has been a more painful experience for me to face. Whether or not this is a way to exclude trans people from receiving care or just a lack of government funding is not clear to me. Regardless, the fact of the matter is that I will not be able to access gender-affirming care on the NHS for the majority of my life. Being told you might have to wait until you are 50 until you can start to live your life the way you had always felt on the inside is daunting. And I want to change that.

I am reminded every day by my beautiful family and friends and LGBTQ+ community that I don’t have to give in to this hopelessness. There is also so much joy in being trans for me. Miracles can happen and people are generous and supportive and loving. I have hope that I can live a life where I feel comfortable in my own skin before it is too late. I can lead a normal, happy life just like everybody else. I know I want these surgeries, but I need your help so that I can get them done privately. This is why I am now setting up a GoFundMe.
