Coach Bailey's Fight vs. Cancer
Donation protected
The first thing you should know is that Danny Bailey was adamantly against this idea of a GoFundMe to help with his fight against cancer. Danny has never been one to ask for help...because he is so humble and he is always the one doing the giving! With some encouragement and "pressure" from friends who wanted to help, he reluctantly agreed to let us put this together for him and his family.
Danny Bailey is 26 years old and is a Social Studies teacher and basketball coach at Forest Hills High School in Marshville, NC. Danny and his wife Raven were married in 2019 and have a newborn son, Brayden. They also have a labradoodle, Rondo, that is named after Danny's favorite basketball player, Rajon Rondo.

With less than 4 weeks to go from Raven's due date to birth Brayden, Danny tested positive for Covid-19. He went into quarantine and seemed to recover rather quickly. After completing his quarantine and testing negative for Covid, Danny was able to resume helping Raven, attend appointments, and prepare for Brayden's birth. Despite all of this, Danny just did not feel "right." During Raven's hospital stay for Brayden's birth, Danny began to get weaker and eventually had to be admitted himself. After seeing doctors, it was clear that he had developed pneumonia and that his lymph nodes were extremely swollen, something that the medical staff wanted to investigate further.
Brayden was born on November 7th, 2020 and Danny was able to be there, but he was hospitalized for tests again two days later. After several more hospital visits and a multitude of tests, on November 21st, 2020, Danny was diagnosed with Stage 3 Lymphatic Cancer. Doctors have told Danny and Raven that this is an aggressive form of cancer but that they plan on matching that with an aggressive chemo strategy. Danny began his first round of chemo Tuesday Dec 8th and will complete 6 total rounds of chemotherapy.
Danny, who is known as Coach Bailey at Forest Hills High School, played basketball at Anson High School and Sandhills Community College. He earned his bachelors degree in Sociology from UNC-Pembroke and has been on staff at Forest Hills as a coach for the past 7 seasons. In January of 2020, Coach Bailey joined the Forest Hills staff as a full-time teacher and currently teaches Civics and Economics and American History I and II. To put it plainly, Coach Bailey is one of the most loved figures on campus! (by students and faculty members) He is a tremendous role model for his students and players and they consistently go to him for advice. While at school, there is no job to big or small for Coach Bailey. He is a true team member and approaches everything with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Coach Bailey was upset when he was diagnosed with cancer but he quickly showed his toughness and resiliency buy saying, "My cancer is not treatable...it is curable. I am going to beat this." Despite having this positive outlook, the most crushing news for Danny was when the doctors ruled him out of teaching and coaching for the rest of the school year. He is crushed that he will not be able to be around his students and the players of the basketball team.

Last week Coach Bailey got the chance to visit basketball practice where he broke the news to the players. Needless to say this was a very emotional scene for everyone involved, however it was extremely powerful too. Many of Coach Bailey's former teammates from Anson High School showed up to support him and many of the former players he coached at Forest Hills showed up as well. It was truly a family moment where everyone could surround him with their love and support.
Coach Bailey has spent his entire life helping others. Now it is time for us to help him. We are asking that everyone consider giving to support Coach Bailey's Fight vs. Cancer. Between missing work, current and future medical costs, coupled with the financial stress of a newborn, we know this will be a heavy load for their family to bear. We pray that the communities from Anson, Forest Hills, Union County, Sandhills Community College, UNCP, and everyone who knows Coach Bailey and his family will contribute to help lighten the load for this amazing family. Let's show Coach Bailey and his family how much they are loved.
We will continue to post updates of Coach Bailey's progress in the coming weeks. Thank you for your love and support of his family!
