Over this past weekend we have had the unthinkable happen to one of our very own soccer families.

When Danny Smuts Jr. was participating in a soccer game on Friday last he collapsed on the field and Danny could barely feel anything from his waist down. Danny was transported immediately to the hospital.

The diagnosis has been Transverse Myelitis of the thoracic spinal cord. He had suffered a spinal stroke. It did not come from a blow or a tackle. It was a condition that was going to happen, it just happened to be on the soccer field. Today, he still has no sensation or movement below the waist.

His parents have spent day and night in the hospital as well as looking after their other two children. Both parents are teachers due to return to school soon.

Danny is great baseball player, soccer player, referee and musician with a fantastic sense of humor. His family is one of the strongest willed, close knit families we have ever known. They are very strong in their faith so all of your prayers are appreciated.
