On October 24, 2022, Daniel Phillip DeGroat, age 41, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Portland, OR. Formerly of Belmont, WI, San Diego, CA, Ithaca, NY, and Portland, OR, Dan had an adventurous life. He spent his childhood in the woods and fields of Wisconsin, exploring the quarry, creeks, and trails. Dan could also be found nose-deep in books of horror, comics, science fiction, and frequently, the dictionary and encyclopedia. Dan grew up surrounded by music, playing drums in band, and playing games. These loves continued into adulthood as his creative, satirical self blossomed. He wrote poetry and stories and immersed himself in nature. He would often greet you by sharing a comedian's monologue or a new song he enjoyed, and he was pretty humorous himself. He shared his joy of life and learning with those around him. He is survived by three beautiful children, David, Jasmine, and Gregory DeGroat; his parents, Loretta and David DeGroat; and his siblings, Rebecca and Paul DeGroat, and Anna Hughes.

We are raising money to help with funeral costs, and the rest of the donations will go to his three beautiful children. Any help would be greatly appreciated during these difficult times.
