My name is Dan Blakeman. Seven years ago, I was stricken with a septic bacterial Infection that put me into the hospital for two months, and left a lengthy period of convalescence afterward. The sepsis effected my spine and left me with partially paralyzed legs. This ended my career as a commercial fisherman and cost me my home, boat, and professional equipment. Realizing I needed to be retrained for another career I began taking classes at a local community college working towards a degree in Healthcare Administration. Today I am three classes, 9 credits, away from completing this degree and being qualified for employment.  Again, a health issue is negatively impacting my life. I need a knee replacement operation. I cannot walk and I am dependent on the use of a wheelchair. Because of the knee problem I cannot make it to my classes. Disability insurance will cover the cost of the knee replacement but I cannot find affordable housing. Currently I am sleeping in my twenty-year-old Dodge Caravan. Without a permanent address the doctors will not perform this necessary operation. For this reason, I need to ask for help.
