Danslab Zuid - Amateur Dance Group

Donation protected
Danslab Zuid brings together dancers from various backgrounds who want to create, exchange and learn from each other. We aim to be a community where artistic people from different cultures come together to inspire and transcend.

We give contemporary themes and relevant social issues a place in the work that we create, with that we hope to inspire people and show what dance can do. We focus on cultural influences within and beyond the borders of Europe inspired by the heritage of our own members.

Over the past few years, we have noticed a shift in amateur dance culture due to the covid-19 pandemic and commercialization of art, especially through social media. Dwindling engagement, decreased attention span and consumer-like behavior has hindered the process of mastering an art form. With Danslab Zuid we would like to appeal to serious dancers who not only seek to develop artistic, technical, improvisation and choreographic skills, but want to dedicate themselves to long-term projects and experience the fulfillment that comes from committing to an (amateur) dance company.

With our next project, we would like to shed light on a sensitive and complex theme: childhood adversity. The foundation of our creative process is first-hand experience from some of us within the group. We have taken on the challenge of depicting the story of a loveless upbringing in a way that is authentic and honest. Avoiding all banalites, shortcuts and phoniness is our compass as we delve into this topic. With that, we guard our artistic expression and hope to bring this to you as a short film.

After our exploration with experimental videos, for this theme we see the need of bringing in professionals to assist us thoroughly. By dedicating sufficient time and financial resources, we aim to create a film that resonates profoundly with its audience. Every donation will support this film project and ensure that we can cover not only the basic costs such as costumes, location and transportation, but more importantly the work of our videographer, editor and sound composer.

Please feel free to get in touch if you would like to know more about Danslab Zuid and share this call with your close family and friends who are willing to support the arts. Thank you!

Note to companies and event organizations: in exchange for your generous support, Danslab Zuid will be very happy to perform existing or new choreographies in line with your event. Our diverse repertoire and skill set allows us to offer choreographies with different characters. Whether you are looking for something uplifting, entertaining or conceptual, please contact us to see how we can support you!
