Dante’s Amputation Fund

Donation protected
This fundraiser has been approved by AMR. When Hurricane Florence hit the Carolinas I was deployed, along with some other amazing EMT’s and Paramedics, to help with the recovery efforts there. While there we were sent to Bolivia, North Carolina to take over their 911 calls and help take the load off of the EMS crews who lived there and needed a break to check out their own homes after the storm.
One night after our shift, we found a puppy in the middle of the road in front of the headquarters struggling to get across. We brought him to a table to check him out. He was guarding his right leg and was very malnourished. We were able to get him to a vet that night after loving on him and getting him to take a little bit of water. He stayed at the vet for about 5 days. There was something about him that grabbed my heart and wouldn’t let go. He needed love and that is something myself and Evan, my son, have a lot of to give. I went to visit him at the vet and told them I would be returning to take him home after our deployment ended. Thankfully there was an EMT and his fiancé who volunteered to foster him in their home while we were deployed until I could come and get him. My son named him Dante, after a street dog in his favorite Disney movie, Coco. It just fit our pup.
We made it home on the 13th day of deployment, a Tuesday. I had to work Wednesday and Thursday on the ambulance and Friday, Evan and I made the 12 hour round trip to pick our Dante up and bring him home. We took him to our local vet where he was given meds and had an X-ray taken of his right leg which he had continued to keep guarded and had not used at all.  The X-ray showed that he had a broken elbow and he had no feeling from the elbow down. His vet suggested we give him some time to see if it would regain any feeling, after a month it has not.
His vet has scheduled his amputation for November 15th. I am dedicated to giving Dante all the care and love that he needs and could ever want. As a single mother things can get tight and I did not go into this thinking it would be easy. If you feel any inclination to give to our Dante Fund we would be so grateful!!!
