Marcus and Darby's Pub & Grill Need OUR Help

Donation protected
My husband and I are making this GoFundMe campaign to help our good friend Marcus Dorn. He is the majority owner of Darby’s Pub & Grill at 315 5th Ave N in Minneapolis. He absolutely loves what he does.

We have frequented this friendly neighborhood pub at least a hundred times with our family and friends in their 8 years of existence. We and others will stop in early before & after Twins games to eat and drink and also make sure we bow to the fan made shrine in the corner for good luck. It’s only a 3 block walk to Target Field from Darby’s. Other friends also gather at Darby’s before a Gopher football game and then jump on the LRT to TCF Bank Stadium. IT’S ALL THAT CLOSE!!

We recently found out that there is an imminent sale of the Designer’s Guild building that houses Darby’s. The sale is expected to be completed by the end of April 2020. All of Darby’s debt obligations need to be settled at that point as well, to ensure that the doors will remain open under the new buildings ownership.

Darby’s has definitely been struggling to get by the last couple years and unfortunately that struggle became a complete and total disaster during the spring and summer of 2019. The closure of 5th Ave N in front of the Designer’s Guild building during this time, rendered parking non-existent and severely limited even pedestrian accessibility to Darby’s. It seemed to last forever!! Needless to say, it was extremely detrimental to Darby’s in just about every way possible, culminating with the Twins 2019 season being over before the road construction, by the city, was even complete.

Darby’s isn’t your usual event space. Forget about pre-selected menus and expensive room charges (NO fees or minimums). At Darby’s, it’s all up to you. They will sit down and discuss your vision, and go from there. Marcus helped our 2 children plan OUR 40th wedding anniversary for 100 guests on Darby’s beautiful patio on a sunshiny day in July, 2016.

Marcus has also hosted numerous parties, catered events, grad parties, rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions and even celebrations of life. He has worked with everyone from the Minnesota Twins, the St Thomas football program, numerous North Loop housing associations, tap rooms and pretty much any other group or organization that came calling, needing assistance.

Especially dear to his heart are fundraisers that support the efforts of dog rescue. Marcus has a rescue dog named Franny, that can often be seen at these numerous fundraising events. Just recently Fox 9 and KSTP channel 5 picked up on the story of a dog giving birth to her puppies in a snow drift in Western Minnesota and he recently held a fundraiser for Red Lake Rosie’s, the shelter that rescued the mom and her pups. Thankfully all survived and are doing well.

That whole road closure was such a shame. It wasn't Marcus’ fault, but he somehow got through the winter and here we are in 2020. Now he needs our help more then ever!! If you want to see Darby’s stay open, please donate. Any donation would be greatly appreciated!!

Marcus is trying to entice donations by giving a party to you and 19 other guests with comp food and drinks for every $1,000 donated BEFORE March 20, 2020. We only need 49 people after the Hannons donate $1,000. If we don’t get the $50,000 by then, our next due date would be April 10, 2020, so we make sure we have time to process all donations before the sale of the building.
