Darci Hubbard Kyle Medical Bills and Expenses

Darci Hubbard Kyle’s story – our dear sister. She has overcome significant life-changing events and health challenges. With the passing of our parents in her senior year of high school, although devastated, Darci was determined to be self-sufficient at the age of 17. She became a single mom when her son Brandon was born. After marrying Hunter Kyle, they were blessed with their son Tyler. Eventually, she became a single mom again, with the love and support of their father. On February 12, 2007, her birthday, she suffered from a stroke, followed by a second stroke that left her with hydrocephalus. This diagnosis resulted in a total of 9 brain surgeries to place two permanent shunts in her head. Meanwhile, our oldest sister Patricia was diagnosed and treated for melanoma but she lost that battle in January 2009. Given the emotional and physical support Pat provided, losing her was especially hard for Darci. Darci never asked for help from anyone, and although she wanted to get back to work, it took her about two years. Devastated, she was forced to file bankruptcy and lose her house and move in with my sister Sherri (Hubbard Blackledge) and her husband Jerry Blackledge for three years.
Eventually, she went back to work and was able to stand on her own again financially and moved into an apartment. Then sadly, about a year later her eldest son Brandon was in a terrible accident resulting in his spine being severed and is now permanently in a wheelchair. Even with this new financial challenge, she found a way to figure things out and eventually buy a home suitable for her family. Brandon is living with Darci today and Tyler is married (Allie) and lives in North Carolina.
Six months ago, Darci was dealing with significant head and back pain and the MRI showed that her brain was yet again the reason for her pain. She had to undergo another traumatizing brain surgery. We understand the brain surgery was to remove scar tissue caused by the shunts and she should be able to go back to work within a few months. She continued to be in pain and was never able to return to work.
It is with significant grief on her family’s part to report that last week Darci has another life-threatening medical condition. On January 17th of this year, she went to the emergency room with extreme pain. She was admitted to the hospital. She is still there and weakens more every day. Although once again, she fights and asks for nothing, we are not sure she is going to win this fight. Darci has not worked since June and has not even had enough money to pay for the medical bills from her last surgery.
Darci’s mounting medical bills and her children’s needs are very much weighing on her mind. Brandon needs to keep up his strength, go to the hospital, and manage the household bills. Brandon’s limitations require outside help to maintain the home. Tyler has come home to be by his mother’s side, and although he is protected by FMLA, this is unpaid leave. My sister and I are hoping to raise some funds for medical bills, household needs, unpaid wages, and unexpected expenses. Thank you for reading her story. We realize that not everyone we know can donate with the ever-increasing cost of living. But if you can, even the smallest amount will give some relief to her and her sons. If you cannot assist financially, we welcome positive energy and prayers. Thank you and God Bless.
