Hey there, I'm Darcy, a 22-year-old from Ballarat, Victoria. I'm the oldest of four boys, and we live with our Mum, forming a tight-knit family that's weathered its share of challenges.
In 2021, life took a drastic turn when I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma following a Jet Ski accident.
Despite the shock, I tackled treatment head-on with twelve cycles of chemotherapy and a 16-hour surgery. Miraculously, I went into remission for two years and life began to return to normal.
I cherished my job at Baker’s Delight, where I'd be up at 3 am, working with a fantastic team of friends. However, in 2023, the cancer reappeared, and my world was once again turned upside down. The pain, the fatigue, the relentless treatments, having my teeth removed from the effects of chemo—it all took a toll.
Eventually, I made the difficult decision to focus on palliative care, to make the most of the time I have left with my loved ones.
In this challenging time, I found solace in learning about Dream Time Indigenous stories. Through these stories, I've gained a deeper understanding of life, death, and the importance of acceptance. Being non-Indigenous, this was a new and profound experience for me, one that has deeply touched my soul.
I've also had the privilege of connecting with the local Indigenous community in Ballarat.
They have been incredibly welcoming and willing to share their knowledge and culture with me. This connection has been a source of comfort and learning, enriching my life in ways I never imagined.
With a life expectancy of around 12 months, one of my deepest desires is to visit Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory with my family. This trip would not only fulfil a dream but also provide an opportunity for us to create lasting memories together. Unfortunately, with my health and financial constraints, this dream seems out of reach.
To make this trip possible, we need to cover the cost of flights for my family and I, also a Winnebago rental, so I can be comfortable whilst travelling.
This will total around $10,000-$15,000. Any donation, no matter how small, would not only help make this dream a reality but also create a lasting impact on me and my family.
Thank you for considering supporting me on this heartfelt journey
