Darcy’s Road to Recovery

Darcy was involved in a serious head-on auto collision on January 9, 2023. She remained in ICUs in 2 hospitals for 75 days recovering before release for home healthcare. She has had over 12 surgeries to repair severe internal injuries from seatbelt damage, with more ahead in the future. She has been home since late March with family, making a slow recovery and healing from the trauma.

Darcy currently has an ileostomy bag until her highly damaged small intestine is fully healed from the accident damage and can be reconnected to her large intestine in September. She also has a nephrostomy bag to drain her right kidney, until further repair can be made in September, along with repair of 2 large abdominal hernias. Further, the accident dislocated her left clavicle, caused severe neck pain, caused aorta damage requiring repair surgery, and caused breast damage that needs future medical reconstruction. Another severe effect of the accident was a stroke with the side effect of losing sensation in the last three fingers of her left/dominant hand.

She is working hard to make a full recovery and stay positive, even following being hospitalized again twice for days with bouts of sepsis in the last few months. Due to the extent of her injuries and needed wrap-up surgeries in September, her earliest return to work again is January 2024. She is experiencing depression due to the extent of her injuries, the loss of her vehicle and escalating medical bills. We are hoping to raise funds to help alleviate the stress from losing much of her yearly income, and the piling medical bills, with many out-of-service medical bills not fully covered by her healthcare insurance.
