Darien’s Medical Emergency
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Darien and this GoFundMe is to help cover rent and living expenses as I recover from recent medical issues.
Beginning in January 2022, I began to experience neurological symptoms including numbness and tingling, involuntary muscle spasms, dizziness, vision problems, and issues with memory and concentration. These symptoms continued to worsen until one day I passed out, which prompted me to go to the emergency room. Scans showed issues with my vascular structure as well as 4 brain aneurysms. I continued to undergo various scans and procedures (which had complications) and visited almost 20 doctors in various fields. Although there was speculation of several conditions, I did not receive a diagnosis or any treatment. In July 2022, I suddenly lost all vision in my right eye after having a migraine for a couple days. I went to the hospital in my hometown, but was quickly transported to Duke University Hospital where I underwent testing. It was discovered that I had an ischemic stroke on the right side of my brain and a retinal stroke due to the blockage of an artery going to my brain. It was also determined that my earlier symptoms were due to continuous mini strokes (TIAs), which I continue to periodically have. A couple months later I was diagnosed with a rare syndrome known as PHACES syndrome. Unfortunately, there is little info on the condition and no cure. Although I am on various medications, there is no treatment and my vascular system is too fragile for surgery. As I continue to experience health issues and recover, I am unable to work. This GoFundMe will be used to support my living expenses until I am recovered enough to work again. Thank you in advance for supporting.
