Darin's Journey to Recovery

To fully understand this tragedy, I want to share who my brother was before his life changed.
Darin is 30 years old and grew up his entire life on a farm outside of Edmonton. He became a Journeyman B-Pressure Welder before he was 22 years old and began operating his own business shortly after. He was an avid cyclist and fitness enthusiast. He was not into partying or staying out late. His passion for cycling and a healthy life was his top priority. He was quiet but very thoughtful and articulate. His second priority was his drive for success in his work. He always strived to do better than he was yesterday. He is honestly the best person to have in your life - always reliable, loyal and level-headed. By the book, he did everything right.
However, on September 26, 2023, Darin's life changed forever. He headed out cycling in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. Around 6:30pm, he was crossing 99 avenue when he was run over by a truck making a left turn. Darin was immediately knocked unconscious and was tranported to the University of Alberta trauma unit where he remained in a coma for nearly a week. He sustained many injuries including a fractured arm, leg, ribs, spine and spleen. However, the most significant damage he endured was severe brain injury with a basal and temporal skull fractures and multiple areas of bleeding in the brain.
By the grace of a miracle, he is alive and woke from his coma. Our family is raising money to help with his recovery process. He has a long road ahead to regain basic functions like speech, memory, reading, writing and walking.
We thank everyone for your love and support during such a difficult time. Our main goal is to support Darin in his new journey forward as this should not have happened to such a truly amazing, ambitious and selfless person ❤️
