Darlene Quinn Working Car

Meet Darlene Quinn. If you drive anywhere around Greer, Lyman, or Wellford South Carolina, especially around Wade Hampton Blvd and Highway 14 area, you have probably seen her walking at some point. Let me tell a little of her story. Darlene is 60 years old, and she currently works at FedEx in Spartanburg South Carolina as a package handler. She has worked at FedEx for almost 7 years now on the morning shift, which usually starts around 4:00 am. Unfortunately, 3 months ago, Ms. Darlene's only car broke down. The transmission went out and the radiator broke. For the last 3 months Darlene has been having to walk to and from work in order to support herself. When I say walk to and from work, I'm talking 12 miles just one way.
In the last couple of weeks my boss, Mark McDaniel and I have made it a point to stop and pick her up anytime we see her. She walks in the rain, in the cold, in whatever weather condition she has to in order to get to work and support herself. Any time we pick her up and ask her where does she need to go and she always tells us, Walmart. She gets just enough groceries for that day because that is all she can carry. She is so humble and grateful for the rides we have been giving her. Often she asks if she can give us gas money, to which we always in the most polite way tell her no.
Darlene has been working 6 days a week for months now to try and save up enough money to buy a reliable car to get back and forth from work. Honestly I admire her! I can't even begin to imagine having to walk that far, then work at a very physically demanding job, then turn around and walk 12 miles back home. So here is my question to everyone, would you help me to raise enough money to buy Ms. Darlene a car? Will you come beside Ms. Darlene to show her what the hands and feet of God really means? Will you help to show Darlene that there really are good people in this world, in our community, and in our places of work? Will you help Darlene to get a vehicle before the tough winter weather really sets in?
All money raised will go to help Darlene, and any money above the cost of a vehicle will go into an account for her to help pay the taxes, maintenance, and insurance costs on the vehicle. Darlene has no idea that we are doing this for her and would love to surprise her with this blessing. I want to go ahead and thank everyone for their contributions to this sweet, humble, and hard working member of our community. I believe this is truly going to change her life! God Bless.
