Darnella Frazier's HBCU Scholarship Fund

On Monday May 25th, the police were called on a 46 year old African American George Floyd for purchasing items with an allegedly suspicious looking $20 bill. He left the store and the cops arrived (the store called the cops over the suspicious $20 bill).  The police arrested him peacefully with no resistance (as shown in video footage).  The cop later forced him on the ground. One officer placed his knee on Mr. Floyd's neck for several minutes while he was pleading for his life, informing the officer that he couldn't breathe. An EMT who was a witness asked 16 times if she could check his pulse and insisted that he couldn't breathe and needed help. 3 other officers stood by and watched as this officer's knee was on top of Mr. Floyd neck for about 9 minutes, with all of his weight.

Initially this story's narrative was "cops doing their job and arresting a criminal who was aggressively resisting arrest." Well not only did the security cameras expose that lie, but one young courageous teenager exposed the full truth for the nation to see. For the District Attorney to see. For all other officers and citizens to see.

Darnella Frazier, at only 17 years old, was courageous and brave enough to film the entire interaction, post it and share it. The media initially said that Mr. Floyd died from a "medical incident while in police custody" when in reality Mr. Floyd died at the hands of the police while in their custody. Had this young woman not had the tenacity to remain on the scene and record the entire time, even though she herself was fearful, this truth would have not been been exposed; it would just have been word of mouth (civilians words against the 4 officers words).

We believe that Ms. Frazier's actions lead to not only the termination of these officers, but the first of four arrests of these officers. We as a community know that had it not been for Ms. Frazier's swift actions and bravery, the nation would have not been made aware of what happened to this innocent man and these officers would be able to continue and ultimately do the same to someone else in the future as it had already occurred on multiple occasions in the past.

The HBCU Alumni Unite Group would like to provide Darnella Frazier with a scholarship to an HBCU. Please consider making a donation to assist in this amazing young woman's future. She has proven to be a leader, socially aware, and determined to fight towards social justice.  I have been in contact with Darnella's friend Shanila who has been speaking to me on Facebook on her behalf. She said Darnella is very grateful for having this support. These funds will be withdrawn by Darnella's parents and used to cover her tuition as well as any other financial needs she and her family may have.

Please continue to pray for Ms. Frazier as she begins unpacking the trauma she witnessed and the aftermath she is experiencing. Please also pray for the family of George Floyd. We demand that justice will be served!

Thank you in advance!
