This is not a typical GoFundMe ask. But Darnell “DMan” Jennings, was not your typical human being. An angel amongst us, he shined light into every room he ever entered. Simply by being himself. He was a complicated and at the same time, simple man. To know him was to know his opinion, because he always had something to say. And would check who he needed to when he needed to check them. Yeah, he was flawed and troubled and imperfect – but also honest and funny and real. He was a protector, a defender, a provider. Went without so those close to him could have. Mature, way beyond his years, even as a child. He was words, beats, rhymes, music. Poetry. An intellectual. A philosopher. A storyteller. A comedian. Creative. Talented. Adaptive. Could talk to anybody, anywhere - CEOs and janitors - just being him. That dude that’s just cool with everybody. Neutral. He could be all over the place but was there. The man was a teacher. An athlete. Musician. He did what he wanted to do. Lived life by his rules. And inspired countless others to do and be the same. He had the weight of the world on his shoulders, but always took the time to make the people laugh, even when he wasn’t laughing inside. Darnell was an incredible human being. He was a friend. A father. A Brother. A Son. Grandson. Uncle. Gift. Moni’s baby...
That’s why this cannot be just an ask for financial help. We are calling in the village. Darnell gave us so much more than money is worth. He gave time and friendship and energy to everybody he met. Always a kind word. And that’s what the family needs right now. In addition to his mother Monica, grandmother Aurora, sister Paige, brother Christian, nephew Tyce, and family, Ashley and Simiyah, Darnell leaves behind his 7 year old son, Xavion. And that’s why we are calling in the village. For help with the void Xave will have with Darnell not here. Yes, a portion of that void is financial. But we also need our family and close friends to be Xave’s village. He needs y’all in his life. He needs those who knew his dad to keep that memory alive. He needs words of encouragement, inspiration, love, light, truth, realness, the gift that his dad was to all of us. So while we definitely encourage and ask for donations to help with life expenses for Xave, we are also asking for those who can and want to be a consistent part of Xave's life, that we start now. Phone calls, letters, cards, visits, games, whatever, however, Xave needs his village. We can be that for him. Cannot think of a better way to honor the memory of Darnell, an incredible human who no doubt made many a village.
