Hi everyone,
As some of you may be aware our brother Darragh has been battling cancer. Darragh was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in September and it was a real shock to all of us. Unfortunately Darragh's battle has been quite difficult as we have now been told it has spread to the bladder.. prostate and now the liver.
Darragh is a very strong man, he's always been passionate about sports, meeting his friends and just having a laugh overall..like any 28 year old would. You could never be around Darragh and not be in tears laughing whether it was at a joke he made or just at his contagious laugh.
Please see below a little more about Darragh's story which he strongly shared on Facebook/Instagram last week.
- For alot of people asking me about my health, I’ll tell a little story I first went into hospital in July last year and I was treated by antibiotics which seemed to of relieved my pain and I also did two scans but then I was allowed to go home after 10 days , a few weeks later my symptoms came back and luckily I had a check up appointment at the same hospital, the surgeon wasn’t happy that I didn’t have a colonoscopy done and even asked me the names of my doctors. He booked me in for a scope later on in that week as urgent and I then found out I had bowel cancer. In October then I had to get a colostomy bag(I poo in a bag from my stomach) and I still have it until this day. I started treatment which was 6 sessions of chemotherapy and they were very tough , 3 hours in the hospital and then a 48 hour cannister to take home with me, usually after the 4th/5th day I started to feel myself again but they were usually 12 hour days in hospital waiting for my treatment which was even more tiring. I finished chemotherapy in the first week of January and then I had to start radiotherapy which was 25 sessions , my last scan done before april was in January. Things were looking positive as the doctors seemed happy in the way everything was going, I kept getting infections though from the radiation but I managed to get the 25 sessions done by the first of March. I then had a 4 week break to let my body heal before we were talking about surgery to remove the tumour , unfortunately a month ago the doctors told us the cancer had since spread to my bladder and prostate since my last scan in January , which was “unexpected” as they said. So I was told I will have to be getting my bladder and prostate removed in major surgery so I would have my colostomy bag for life and I’d also need a bag for my urine. 2 weeks ago , more bad news , the cancer spread again , this time to my liver which isn’t good and it was “unexpected” again as the doctor said. So now I have to start 3 months of chemotherapy again from May to focus on my liver so my prostate, bowel and bladder will be untreated for 3 months. I was told if the chemotherapy doesn’t work then it is incurable which is hard news to take for me and my family , I just have to keep strong and keep going I’ll also take this time to thank my beautiful girlfriend Ginte for everything she’s done for me so far , I’d be lost without her and without my family , especially my mam who’s been by my side since day 1. Long story but I had to get it off my chest and let people know my experience I would recommend people To get a check up when they can.
We are hoping to raise funds for Darragh to adapt to his new normal.
Darragh will have to travel nearly everyday to Beaumont from Duleek to get his chemo.. which is petrol money and also €9.00 a day for parking.
To fund for more expensive medical supplies that wouldn't be covered such as special oils to help hopefully fight this cancer.
Darragh and his girlfriend have recently gotten mortgage approved and moved into their new home. As Darragh can no longer work it is not as easy to get things they need for their new place.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my brother's story.. any little donation is so much appreciated.
