Darrel Kirby Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
On Sunday, September 18th our family received news that no one was remotely prepared for. Son, Brother, Uncle, Father, Grandfather and Friend to so many, Darrel Kirby, received news of a number of different cancerous masses throughout his body.
A loyal friend to those who know him or have even had the opportunity to interact with him, is in the early stages of a major fight. For those of you that know Darrel, he would give the shirt off his back to help someone, often times giving more of himself and his time, than could ever be repaid. A prideful man, who would never accept any type of help or assistance from anyone, is now in a time where he needs just that.
Currently he is in the care of his two sons, Cameron and Drew, while staying at Cameron’s home in Gallipolis. Since Sunday, Darrel has seen an Oncologist and due to his physical condition, is currently receiving care at the local hospital, as his family and medical team works to get him healthy enough to go back to Cameron’s.
We never dreamed of being in this position, but here we are. There is long road ahead in terms of hospital bills, treatments, prescriptions, and travel. If you feel moved to support Darrel financially through this battle, we ask that all donations be made here. If you are not in a position to support him financially, we ask that you remember him and the family in your thoughts and prayers. Your support is greatly appreciated.
We will post updates to this page as we can.

UPDATE from Drew :
Following discharge this past weekend, Dad returned to Cameron’s and was fairly independent for a couple days.
On Monday, Dad returned to the hospital as he had a fever and was not feeling well. We were able to secure an ER to ER transfer to Riverside Hospital on Monday evening, with the help of some amazing people, as he needed a procedure that could only be done at Riverside or Ohio State.
Doctors have continued to be stumped in terms of the exact cancer type that we are dealing with, but the team here at Riverside is working tirelessly with pathologists to get answers. They’ve been able to secure two more biopsies to help find answers as well provide him with the procedure that was needed in a major way.
Yesterday, Dad underwent a procedure to place two stints, a pancreatic stint as well as bilianary stint, both were much needed and the reason we had to be here in Columbus.
Dad continues to have his tough days and his good days, as we all await answers as to what’s next. His humor and ability to befriend all that he comes in contact with here at the hospital is extremely encouraging.
Those of you who know Dad, know he can make a friend out of anyone he encounters and it’s incredibly encouraging to us, that even in condition that he’s in, he still finds a way to make others feel important.
Your continued thoughts and prayers for Dad would be much appreciated as he continues to fight!

Update from Drew
Update on Dad
First of all, thank you to so many of you who have texted, called, reached out in some capacity and even commented well wishes, thoughts and prayers for Dad. The outpouring of support has been appreciated by Dad and our family.
We wish that we could provide everyone with a positive update and news regarding Dad. Unfortunately, we have learned that Dad has been diagnosed with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer, that has metastasized and it is in late stages.
We have been fortunate to spend a tremendous amount of time with our father over the course of the last three weeks and wouldn’t trade it for anything. And for whatever time we have left, we will cherish that time as well.
Once again, we thank everyone for their continued thoughts, prayers and support for Dad.
