There’s so much to say to about my dad. At least a triology worth and probably just as strange and exciting as the Lord of the Rings. He had a heart as big as his personality. He drew attention wherever he went, if not for his hair then for bursting into song or striking up a conversation with a stranger. He was gruff, messy, strong as an ox, and endlessly creative. He was impatient, generous, loud, and hardworking. He was a wrestler, a football player, (briefly) a hockey player, a golfer, a hunter, a fisher, a bricklayer, a house builder, a welder, a maintenance man, a t-ball coach, a renaissance festival junkie, a collector, and a preacher. Most importantly, he was a son, a brother, a father, a grandfather, an uncle. He loved his family dearly, including the family he made at Canyon Creek. He was supposed to live forever.
In late October, he went in with pneumonia. On November 5th, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer that had invaded his brain and liver. On November 29th, he died. The void he left is immeasurable. We are all still in shock.
My mother and father were married for 41 years. They met when my mom was 13. He wasn’t supposed to go first. She’s struggling with her own cancer. My dad was the sole income earner and the medical bills have started rolling in. We are all doing the best we can, but any help in relieving even a fraction of her burden would be a blessing.
