In April of 2018, our Uncle Darrell's doctors called him "sickest man in the hospital" as he fought what we thought at the time was Hodgkin's Lymphoma. For a time, we thought we might lose him. Blessedly, we didn't.
Just under a year later, Darrell was able to start rebuilding his life, thanks to a team of amazing doctors, loving family and friends, and his own incredible spirit and strength. In August, he had enough energy to begin a year-long post as a Pastoral Resident at East Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans, providing pastoral care to all patients at the hospital.
Unfortunately, he learned around the same time that he had cancerous activity in his lymph nodes again. His doctors identified it as Follicular Lymphoma, and in February, he began a new round of chemotherapy.
Then, the slowly unfolding crisis that is Covid-19 began. Darrell learned that he could no longer continue as a resident because the risk was too high for someone with a suppressed immune system like his. He returned to his home in Grand Coteau, and within days he was hospitalized with the coronavirus.
When he left his residency program, he also lost his source of income. Together, we're hoping to help him raise enough money to cover his expenses so he can focus on getting healthy again. Thank you in advance for whatever you can contribute to supporting our Uncle. He is one of the wisest and funniest and kindest people we've ever known. He's always been there for us, and now we're doing what we can to be there for him.
Sincerely,
The Cousins
