Darrell has seemingly always been a dad. He grew up in Emmetsburg, Iowa and helped raise his six younger brothers and sisters. He worked very hard to provide for his wife, four daughters, and three grandsons with sheer determination and selflessness.
Darrell worked as a machinist for most of his life and sacrificed constantly to keep his family fed and sheltered. He was also a fun and loving man. He married his wife Frances in 1972 -- June 30th this year would've been their 48th wedding anniversary.
Darrell loved long walks at Pine Lake State Park. In the last few years as walking became difficult, he enjoyed cruising around Iowa with his (now deceased) brother-in-law Donald to find local veterans memorials. He was always eating something sweet, like big bowls of ice cream, and he had the best laugh.
He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, church, and local community.
