Darrell's Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Amanda Bell, and I am fundraising for my cousin, Darrell Todd. He is a 57-year-old registered nurse who has developed end-stage liver disease and now requires a transplant for survival.

As a firefighter, paramedic and ER nurse for over 35 years, Darrell is accustomed to caring for and helping others. However, he now finds himself in the unfamiliar and unfortunate role of patient due to a liver condition.

Darrell was diagnosed with PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), an auto-immune disorder affecting the liver, over 30 years ago. He had done reasonably well managing his illness until August 2021 when he contracted COVID-19 while working as a travel nurse in Arizona. He was unable to recover and sought additional treatment in December. It was discovered that his PSC had significantly worsened, to the point that his liver was cirrhosed and had multiple bloodclots. At this time, Darrell was told that he would need a liver transplant. He was then terminated from his job, since he could not perform his contracted nursing duties.

With the assistance of his family, Darrell returned to his home in Augusta, GA in January 2022. He subsequently traveled to MUSC in Charleston, SC to begin evaluation for a transplant. He has undergone extensive testing and determined to be a good candidate. Therefore, he was placed on the UNOS transplant list on March 8, 2022.

Given that Darrell is now unemployed combined with the extraordinary costs associated with organ transplant surgery, fundraising efforts are being organized on his behalf. Please follow the link provided if you feel led to donate monetarily to Darrell's transplant fund. All funds raised will go directly to transplant expenses. We are in the process of opening a fund with the Georgia Transplant Foundation, who will assist by providing matching funds, but that account is still being set-up. Until then, please do not donate to any other fund on Darrell's behalf, other than what is directly linked to this page. If you are unable to give financially at this time, as a Christian, Darrell appreciates your kind thoughts and covets your prayers.

Thank you for taking the time to read and thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers!
